6 healthy habits to try at home this week

In stressful times, it's good to look after yourself by setting up a routine of healthy habits. Try one of these this week, or if you're game - try a new one every day!

In stressful times, it's important to have a routine that you can fall back on and rely on to add structure to your day.

When you add healthy habits to this mix, you are setting yourself up for success!

So, here are six healthy habits you can try this week to help your daily routine. If you're feeling up to it - why not give all of them a go and see how you feel!

Wake up at the same time each morning

If you find yourself changing your alarm time each night for the next day depending on your schedule - this one's for you.

Our bodies love routine, especially when we do the same things over and over. Waking up at the same time every day will actually help you sleep better at night.

Experts say this can also reduce our dependence on caffeine, brighten our mood and increase productivity. Worth a shot, right?

Eat healthy, balanced meals

Some may think working from home would mean a chance to cook every meal and make it as delicious and nutritious as possible.

The reality is, however, sometimes we can get so busy we don't even have time to boil the kettle!

This can leave us starving by the end of the day, which leads to mindless snacking or gorging on chocolates or cheese - things that are delicious, yes, but they won't keep us satiated.

Meal prepping is a really great way to ensure you have a stockpile of good, healthy food that you can quickly whip up for your next meal.

3: Take a breather

Life in the fast lane can get a little bit hectic. It's important to take a few moments every day to breathe, and find some calm.

Maybe you do this with a cup of tea, a home workout, or a walk with your dog.

For some it can be hard to find a spare minute between working and home responsibilities. But there are ways you can do this even at your desk.

4: Connect with a loved one

Connecting with people that know us and understand us is really important for our mental health. 

It helps us to feel understood and grounds us. It can also be good to check in on your friends and families when undergoing hard times, to see that everyone's ok and show that you care.

Try to reach out to someone close to you this week. Maybe just a quick phone call or a text message, or organise a video call so you can see their faces.

5: Speak openly about how you're feeling

Now more than ever, we know how important looking after our mental health is.

If you've had a bad day, if something has set you off, or made you feel upset - talk about it.

Open up to a loved one, a friend or family member. Sometimes it helps to just get things off our chests.

6: Try something new

When we are experiencing stressful times or situations, it can be a great time to zone in on a single task.

Learning a new skill, or trying something creative is a great example of this, where you can focus on painting or drawing to clear your mind and calm down.
