NGV exhibition, Big Weather reveals the intimate and sophisticated understanding of Country, weather systems, and ecologies that exist within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural knowledge.
The exhibition features diverse works from the NGV Indigenous Collection – from representations of ancestral spirit beings associated with rain, hail, and storms that feed into our rivers, revive the landscape and nourish wildlife, to works highlighting the destructive impact of recent bushfires.
By acknowledging weather systems as indicators of change across different landscapes, we are able to look further at the idea of change across many facets of our lives, how change affects us, how we adapt and how knowledge of the past can inform our shared future.
Big Weather exhibition is a free gallery available at NGV's Ian Potter Centre until February 2022.
