Writeability aims to remove some of the barriers that have traditionally prevented people with disability from connecting with writing and publishing. It provides tools and information to support people with disability who want to tell their own stories in their own way.

The Writeability ethos has been based on the importance of self-told stories, disability-leadership and peer support, and the creation of opportunities for even the quietest voices to be heard.

Writeability is for anyone who experiences barriers as a result of their particular impairment or condition (such as the lack of physical access, communication barriers, discrimination or other people’s attitudes).

This includes (but isn’t limited to) people with sensory or physical impairments, hidden impairments, ongoing medical conditions, intellectual impairments, learning difficulties or mental health conditions. If you self-identify as a person with disability or as someone who experiences barriers as a result of your condition, then Writeability is for you.

Border Stories is a podcast, a partnership between Writers Victoria's Write-ability Program and VALiD (Victorian Advocacy League for Individuals with Disability), featuring stories told by people living with disabilities.
