For Aus Music Month we're meeting people behind the scenes of our music industry.
Alex Hingston, or Hingrito, is a Melbourne-based freelance artist responsible for the merch designs of Aussie acts like The Living End, DZ Deathrays, and locals Bad Juju.
What local act are you listening to at the moment?
"I have been listening to a local Melbourne band, Obscura Hail's new EP ‘Siren’ on repeat. I stumbled upon them by accident and can't get enough of their nostalgia-drenched sound."
What local band or artist will you be wearing for Aus Music T-Shirt Day?:
"I will be repping a shirt by the one and only Gretta Ray! "
Where is your favourite local venue to see live music in Victoria?
"There are so many! But if I had to choose, it would be between The Forum Theatre or The Tote in Collingwood."
What is it about the Victorian music scene that sets us apart from the rest of Australia?
"I think probably the sheer diversity in sound and styles, as well as the inexhaustible amount of historically-charged, genuinely awesome venues, and the talented humans that fill them with their music."
How do you predict we'll enjoy music in the future?
"We're all craving live music now more than ever, so I suppose we'll adapt so we can keep Victoria open and safe for everyone. Also, as bad as COVID has been, it has really opened up Pandora's box for the many different ways that artists can connect with their fans online.
Hanging out for that first return to a mosh pit though!"
