Uncle Larry Walsh’s Smoking Ceremony

Footscray Community Arts Centre (FCAC) presents FCAC Music, a platform for showcasing exceptional talent from Melbourne’s western suburbs and beyond. The program focuses on distinctive voices and original sounds, shining a spotlight on emerging and established artists against a visually stunning, ambient set design.

FCAC is thrilled to deliver performances from the incredible Pookie, Tiana Khasi, Kee’ahn, and Gordon Koang as part of Victoria Together. Originally performing in-venue at FCAC’s 2019 – 2020 live music series HEAR Footscray, in this installment, their audiences are virtual.

A Word from Uncle Larry Walsh

“The third purpose (for the Smoking Ceremony) is when we were coming together to have a meeting, whether it was a ceremonial one, a trade one, or a dispute one, we would smoke to clear the air of any bad spirit, so that everyone would come together in good spirit. We’re using this in the sense of not the bad, but to bring good spirit into the music and the performers, and hopefully spread the good spirit out to you in viewing the podcast. ”

Uncle Larry Walsh performs a Smoking Ceremony and Acknowledgement of Country to ready the stage for FCAC Music.
