Tuned in - Sophia Eyob and Yosan Mussie in their fitness group

Tuned In

A series produced by the youth of CMY, sharing their connections with sport and mental health.

5 minutes

Sophia and Yosan are both from Eritrea, and never really had the opportunity or time to get involved in fitness and sports growing up. Exercise and fitness were a luxury back home that not everyone could reach. So when they came to Australia they embraced the active lifestyle!

“Many women in our community get so caught up with the hustle and bustle of Western life that they don’t get a chance to stay fit and healthy.

By incorporating physical activity into our daily routine, we found ourselves more active, engaged, and empowered.

We want to share our journey to encourage other young women like us that, if we come together, we can lift each other and achieve great things.” - Sophia and Yoasan.

Produced by the youth of CMY.

The Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY)  has been facilitating youth participation in sport for over 20 years. They work closely with sports clubs and organisations in Victoria, with the aim of creating a sector that is more accessible, inclusive and responsive to the needs of young people from diverse backgrounds.
