TarraWarra Museum of Art

The Art, Place and Ideas series reflects the diversity of the Victorian community and provides solace and inspiration at a time of continued upheaval around the world.

Responding to the Victoria Together call out, TarraWarra Museum of Art commissioned eight Victorian artists/groups (18 artists in total) to create new digital works inspired by the notion of art, place, and ideas.

TarraWarra Museum of Art acknowledges the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation as the original custodians of the lands and waters on which the Museum stands and we extend our respect to their community, their Ancestors, and their Elders, past, present, and emerging.

Tarrawarra is a Woiwurrung word that translates approximately as ‘slow-moving waters’ and is the name given to the area of Wurundjeri Country in the Yarra Valley in which the Museum is located.

The Museum actively engages in art, place, and ideas, where unexpected links between contemporary art and modernism are presented within global, national, and Indigenous contexts.

These commissions are varied, ranging from witty to conceptual, interactive to awe-inspiring, heart-breaking to intimate. Together they reflect the many ways in which people around the world experienced being both apart, and together, during the pandemic.

This project is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria.

TarraWarra Museum of Art is supported by the TarraWarra Museum of Art Foundation, and the Inaugural Foundation Supporter; the Besen Family Foundation, along with major sponsors; Probuild, Arnold Bloch Leibler, Deloitte, Chubb, AON, and the Balnaves Foundation.
